Alexandria Detention Center Study - Community Feedback

Alexandria Detention Center Study - Community Feedback

The City of Alexandria is conducting a study of the William G. Truesdale Adult Detention Center. The facility is well managed and meets applicable legal and professional standards. The reason for the study is not operational failure but a sustained decline in the local inmate population, which has fallen by nearly half since 2018. Today’s population also has more complex needs, and the City is working to understand what this means for the cost of operating the jail. The study will look at how the facility is staffed, funded, and operated, and what alternatives could better match the City’s needs while maintaining public safety, providing appropriate care for those in custody, supporting the dedicated staff who work there, and making responsible use of taxpayer dollars. No decisions have been made, and the study will inform, not predetermine, the outcome. The City is seeking input on the priorities, concerns, and opportunities that should be considered. Your feedback will help inform the study and the decisions that follow.
